This experience was awesome. I never would have thought of shadowing a paramedic if it wasn't for Laura I don't think I would have ever thought to shadow a paramedic. I really enjoyed it and I think this could potentially be a career for me in the future. It amazes me of how many jobs and opportunities there is in the medical field. I am very glad that I got the opportunity to shadow. I really learned a lot of new things that I didn't know about paramedics and firemen.
This was a meaningful experience to me because I am close with Laura but got even closer with her after this experience. I made new relationships with some of the firemen, learned so much, and even learned new things about myself. I was so thankful that Laura was able to give me the opportunity to shadow her. I am also thankful that she wanted to help me figure out my future. I learned many things in this experience.
I learned that.. -The ambulance and smaller firetruck goes on about 15-20 runs a day and the big ladder truck goes on an average 10-15 runs a day. -The ambulance takes 2 paramedics at a time and there are 2 ambulance trucks at the Livingston fire station. The 2 fire trucks take 3 firemen during the day and 4 at night. -They get trained every year -They have 24 hour shifts and so each of them have their own bed to sleep in -The station has comfy chairs for them to take naps on or watch tv and they also have a big kitchen and weight room -Funny fact: Sometimes bums from outside, when all the trucks are out on runs they sneak in and sleep in their beds -It takes about 3 years all on fire departments to get all training you need -If a station near is short staff then they will send one of the other stations firemen to help out. - Salary $77,000-$90,000
